Musher Question & Answer

How many years have you been running dogs?
10
Tell us about your dogs, particularly some stories or facts about dogs running the 2020 race with you

Almost all of the dogs on my team I've raised from puppies. We spend every day of every season together. It's fun to watch them grow from pups who trip over their own feet to elite athletes running on thousand miles. Main leaders in the team will probably be Lefty, Goblin, Boone, Cooke and Jana.

How did you get started running dogs?

I googled "dog mushing jobs." I worked for SP Kennel and they helped me start my own team.

What do you love most about running sled dogs?

This question stumps me every time. I love everything about running dogs. Perhaps a better question - what do you love most about life? Answer - running dogs.

Are you a member of any other organizations involved in sled dog sports?
Two Rivers Dog Mushing Association
Why did you enter the Yukon Quest? What are your goals for the race?
To finish as fast as we can with a happy and healthy team!
How did your dogs get their names?/ How do you choose names?

Friends and family help choose the names.

What music do you listen to on the trail?

Anything. Everything. Nothing. My mom found several old ipod shuffles from friends and family that I used last year, so my music was quite diverse!

Share a quick story about one of your indispensable Handlers

You can't run 1,000 miles without a great crew. Kalyn, dog care extraordinaire! She helps me train the dogs and takes amazing care of the team in Dawson. Derek, husband, truck mechanic, life partner. Mom Katy, she's never missed a 1000 mile race, update web site and is emotional mom support. Jezzy and Sasha, truck dogs.

Tell us about your favourite experience with a volunteer on the trail
My birthday is during the Yukon Quest. Two years ago, I had a wonderful welcoming in Eagle. Last year it was Mile 101. the Quest volunteers are the BEST!
